Power tariff down by 13 percent

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday notified 13 per cent reduction in electricity tariff for domestic consumers consuming 100 to 400 units. According to the notification issued by the Water and Power ministry, the new prices will be applicable on PEPCO and the KESC consumers. The statement said that the electricity relief package would be applicable for PEPCO consumers from September 2008 bills while for the KESC consumers it will be pertinent from October 2008 bills. The low income group and domestic consumers would benefit from the revised power tariff package, it said. PEPCO and KESC have also given discount to industrial consumers in the September and October bills respectively, according to the notification. Meanwhile, subsidy has been given on agriculture tariff too. The government will have to give Rs40 billion subsidy on the revised power tariff.
